Responsibility

My Thoughts

This is a very complex subject because it is tied to so many outside influences. One is tempted to say we are responsible for any effect where we are the cause. Nice neat and simple but in my opinion is about as accurate as everything is preordained. One accepts all the blame, the other none. The mysteries of life cannot be paint black or white and responsibility is no different. Our own actions themselves are the effect of a cause that may or may not have been generated by ourselves. Then there is the matter of intent to consider. Even our current awareness plays a part as does our acceptance or not of Karma. This is before we even take into account the separation of body and spirit. The choice of whether we are body or spirit can make a lot of difference in relationship to ones idea of responsibility and how that responsibility is shaped to our interaction with those around us. I pondered on this question for a very long time failing to come up with an answer that would satisfy every question I asked of it.  I can only go with what I believe to be the case at any given moment in time. I do not believe things are preordained therefore I must accept that I have at least some control on my experiences which in turn must mean a degree of responsibility. Where  it may have a certain appeal for some to forego responsibility for their actions I think its acceptance plays a part in our enlightenment. I believe the art is knowing what part you played in any action and the effect your part had in the outcome of that action. Responsibility comes with both positive and negative effects from any action.
